Praia da Manta Rota

Location: undefined, eastern Algarve

An endless stretch of sand in eastern Algarve that remains relatively quiet even in August. Warm, calm waters perfect for families with young children.

Praia da Manta Rota is the eastern Algarve's best-kept family secret—a seemingly endless stretch of golden sand that remains remarkably uncrowded even at the height of summer. Located in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, near the Spanish border, this beach offers everything families need: warm, shallow waters, soft sand perfect for castle-building, and a relaxed atmosphere that draws mostly Portuguese families rather than international tourists. The beach stretches for over a kilometer and is part of a continuous strip of sand extending from Praia de Santo António to Praia de Cacela Velha. Unlike the dramatic cliff-backed beaches of western Algarve, Manta Rota is fronted by low sand dunes and sits at the eastern edge of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The water here is notably warmer than elsewhere in the Algarve, and the seabed slopes so gradually that children can wade safely for considerable distances. With Blue Flag certification, lifeguards on duty, and beachfront restaurants just steps away, it's the quintessential family beach.
