Praia da Rocha

Location: undefined, central Algarve

One of the Algarve's most famous beaches with a long promenade, restaurants, and iconic rock formations. Great for families with all facilities and calm waters.

Praia da Rocha is the Algarve's most iconic beach resort, where dramatic ochre cliffs meet a vast expanse of golden sand stretching over a kilometer. As the first beach to attract mass tourism to Portugal's southern coast in the 1930s, it set the template for the modern Algarve holiday experience—combining raw coastal beauty with a full complement of facilities, restaurants, and nightlife. The beach is framed by striking rock formations that give it its name ("Beach of the Rock"), with the historic Fort of Santa Catarina standing guard at the eastern end. A long wooden boardwalk runs the length of the beach, lined with restaurants, bars, and beach clubs. Despite its popularity, the beach's sheer size means there's always space to spread out. For those seeking adventure, water sports range from jet skiing and parasailing to kayaking along the dramatic coastline. The famous Três Castelos viewpoint at the western end offers one of the Algarve's most photographed panoramas.
