Praia da Rocha Baixinha
Location: undefined, central Algarve
A wide, golden sand beach stretching between Falésia's red cliffs and Vilamoura's dunes. Known locally as Praia dos Tomates, this Blue Flag beach offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and family-friendly facilities.
Praia da Rocha Baixinha, affectionately known as Praia dos Tomates (Tomato Beach) after a former tomato plantation nearby, represents the best of the Algarve's family-friendly coastline. This kilometer-long stretch of golden sand sits at the transition point between the dramatic red cliffs of Praia da Falésia to the west and the sandy dunes leading to Vilamoura to the east.
The beach is divided into two sections: Rocha Baixinha Oeste (West) and Rocha Baixinha Leste (East). The western section features the iconic low red cliffs that give the beach its name ('baixinha' means 'low'), while the eastern section transitions into dune-backed shoreline with a more lively atmosphere, beach bars, and water sports.
Blue Flag certified since 2012, Rocha Baixinha offers everything families need for a perfect beach day: lifeguards during summer season, clean facilities, sunbed and parasol rentals, and several beach restaurants serving fresh seafood and cold drinks. The wide expanse of soft sand means there's always space, even in peak season.
The beach is easily accessible by car with paid parking, or you can walk from Vilamoura via a scenic wooden footbridge over the Ribeira de Quarteira stream. This connectivity makes it easy to combine with visits to Vilamoura Marina or a walk along the stunning Falésia cliff path.
Facilities: Lifeguards, Toilets, Beach bars, Sunbed rentals, Water sports
Activities: swimming, photography, kayaking
Parking: Paid parking available near beach access. Also reachable on foot from Vilamoura via wooden bridge.
