Praia do Pintadinho
Location: undefined, central Algarve
A hidden gem near Ferragudo with 160 meters of fine golden sand, Blue Flag waters, and impressive cave formations at the northern end. This peaceful beach offers a perfect escape from crowds while still providing excellent facilities and calm waters ideal for families.
Praia do Pintadinho is one of Ferragudo's best-kept secrets—a tranquil Blue Flag beach that combines natural beauty with excellent facilities while maintaining a peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere. Located just beyond the mouth of the River Arade, this 160-meter stretch of fine golden sand is framed by typical Algarve rock formations and impressive sea caves.
The northern end of the beach features a spectacular large cave that's perfect for exploring at low tide. These rock formations, with their warm ochre and red tones, are characteristic of this stretch of coastline and provide wonderful photography opportunities. The calm, crystal-clear waters have earned consistent Blue Flag certification, making this beach ideal for families with children.
Unlike busier beaches in the area, Praia do Pintadinho maintains a relaxed, authentic atmosphere. There's no loud music or water sports—just the sound of gentle waves and the calls of seabirds. The beach restaurant serves fresh seafood and Portuguese cuisine, and sunbed rentals are available for those who want extra comfort.
From the headland above the beach, you can walk to the Ponta do Altar lighthouse, which offers spectacular views westward to Ponta da Piedade in Lagos and even Sagres on clear days. The lighthouse area is also the access point for the scenic coastal path connecting Ferragudo's beaches.
