Praia dos Arrifes
Location: undefined, central Algarve
The smallest beach in Albufeira, Praia dos Arrifes is a hidden gem perfect for snorkeling. Just 75 meters long, this intimate cove features dramatic rock formations jutting into clear waters teeming with marine life.
Praia dos Arrifes, also known locally as 'Praia dos Tres Penecos' (Beach of the Three Rocks), is a compact yet striking cove that offers arguably the best snorkeling experience in the Albufeira area. At just 75 meters long, it's the smallest beach in the region, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character and underwater life.
The beach is defined by its dramatic rock formations—large pillars and stacks that jut into the clear blue water, creating natural breakwaters that keep the cove sheltered and calm. These rocky outcrops are what make this beach exceptional for snorkeling: the underwater landscape around the formations is home to fish, sea urchins, starfish, and various other marine creatures. The best visibility is typically just after high tide.
A Sardinha restaurant sits at water level, offering Mediterranean cuisine with excellent seafood and fish dishes. The restaurant provides a convenient base for a day at the beach, with parasols available for hire. Due to its small size, Arrifes never feels crowded like the larger Albufeira beaches, making it a peaceful retreat for those in the know.
