Praia dos Estudantes
Location: undefined, western Algarve
Lagos's most magical beach, accessed through a natural tunnel carved through the cliff. The small cove features a dramatic rock arch and is sheltered from wind on most days.
Praia dos Estudantes, meaning 'Students Beach,' is one of Lagos's most magical coastal spots, famous for its striking Roman-style bridge that arches between eroded cliffs. This architectural remnant from the historic Pinhão Fortress, destroyed in the 1700s, creates one of the most photographed scenes in the Algarve.
The beach is divided into two cozy sandy coves connected by this scenic bridge and tunnels hand-carved through the cliffs. One tunnel to the south gives access to a small bay where the curious arch-shaped passage connects a rocky ledge to the shore. Another tunnel to the north connects Praia dos Estudantes to the neighboring Praia da Batata.
Situated on the eastern side of Ponta da Piedade, the beach enjoys natural shelter from winds and waves, resulting in calm, crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming. The transparent water makes this an excellent spot for snorkeling along the rocky edges. At low tide, you can explore rock pools teeming with marine life and even access a tunnel leading to Praia Pinhão.
