Praia Verde

Location: undefined, eastern Algarve

A peaceful paradise where pine forests meet soft white sand, creating the 'Green Beach' of the eastern Algarve. The scent of pine trees fills the air as you relax on this wide, uncrowded stretch near the Spanish border.

Praia Verde - the 'Green Beach' - is one of the Algarve's most distinctive coastal experiences. Unlike the dramatic cliffs of the central and western regions, this eastern Algarve gem is characterized by the fragrant pine forest that reaches almost to the sand's edge. The scent of pine mingles with sea air as you relax on the fine white sand, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a natural spa than a typical beach resort. The beach itself is remarkably wide and flat, with soft sand that's a joy to walk on barefoot - there are no rocks to navigate here. The water is noticeably warmer than the western Algarve, thanks to the eastern coast's more sheltered position and proximity to the Mediterranean influence through the Strait of Gibraltar. At low tide, small pools form along the beach, creating natural paddling areas that children adore. Praia Verde occupies a sweet spot between the busier Monte Gordo to the east and the more remote beaches near Tavira to the west. It has enough facilities for comfort - restaurants, sunbeds, lifeguards - but retains a peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere that's increasingly rare on the Algarve coast. The nearby Reserva Natural do Sapal, with its salt pans and flamingos, offers excellent birdwatching, while the medieval castle of Castro Marim provides a historical excursion.
